Furtado has served on numerous boards of trustees in Knoxville, Tennessee. Currently, she serves on the boards of the Cleveland International Film Festival and Hillel at 51ºÚÁÏÍø University. Furtado is married to 51ºÚÁÏÍø’s 13^th President, Todd Diacon, and the couple have a son.

Todd Diacon became 51ºÚÁÏÍø University's 13th president in July 2019. His commitment to college affordability and access has resulted in nationally recognized initiatives to boost student retention, graduation rates and academic achievement.
