CARES Center
The CARES Center is a space that supports students who have challenges with their basic needs. The center helps students who are experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, financial insecurity, and needs related to mental well-being.
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
SNAP, or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly Food Stamps), is the largest federal nutrition program. Beginning on Jan. 16, 2021, students who meet one of the two criteria may receive SNAP if they meet all other financial and non-financial SNAP eligibility criteria.
Urgent Counseling Resources
CAPS crisis services are available for students who are experiencing an urgent need, or for individuals who are concerned about a student’s safety and mental well-being. For more information about resources see the website link below.
Food Pantries
Flashes Fighting Hunger in Community Engaged Learning and the Flashes' Food Pantry in the CARES Center has hours throughout the week including a ‘Fresh Food Friday’ joint pantry. For more information on hours and locations please visit the Campus Kitchen website linked below.
Akron-Canton Food Bank
This website offers a way for you to search for local pantries and grocery options with updated hours. Please call the food bank directly at 330-535-6900 to confirm the accuracy of the hours.
Basic Needs Resources
The CARES Center provides information on basic needs resources including financial empowerment, food security, mental well-being, stable housing, and others. This site includes links to regional campus basic needs resources as well.

Access resources for Financial Aid and Scholarships, Billing and Payment, Student Records and Academic Transcripts, and Financial Wellness.
51ºÚÁÏÍø of Well-being
The 51ºÚÁÏÍø of Well-being offers several programs, services, and events for student organizations, residence halls, classes, individuals, and other populations. Students can even meet with our staff for individualized health education. We use Certified Peer Educators to help 51ºÚÁÏÍø Students develop knowledge and skills that improve their holistic health and well-being.
Mental Health Website
This site provides information on all mental health and well-being services that support the 51ºÚÁÏÍø University community across our campus system and abroad and provides information on educational resources to enhance learning around mental health and well-being.

Access valuable resources including, but not limited to, employment opportunities, job placement and career advising.
Don't Feel Safe?
If you don’t feel safe in your home, there are many resources offered by the Office of Sexual Relationship Violence Support Services (SRVSS) that you may find especially helpful. Visit the SRVSS website for valuable resources.
Ohio United Way 211
Ohio United Way 211 is a 2-1-1 is the gateway that connects people with community resources and volunteer opportunities. If you do not live in Ohio, you can still dial 2-1-1 to be connected to the resources available in your state.
